Latent Spatial Learning in an Environment With a Distinctive Shape

چکیده
Four experiments were conducted with rats in order to determine whether being placed on a platform in one corner of a rectangular swimming pool results in latent spatial learning. Rats in Experiments 1-3 received four trials a day of being placed on the platform. During a subsequent test trial, in which they were released into the pool without the platform, the rats exhibited a preference for swimming in the correct corners of the pool (those with the same geometric properties as the corner containing the platform during training), than the two remaining, incorrect corners. This effect was seen when the interval between the final placement trial and the test trial was as much as 24 hr (Experiment 2) and after varying numbers of sessions of placement training (Experiment 3). Experiment 4 revealed that when the test took place in a kite-shaped arena, after placement training in a rectangle, a stronger preference was shown for the corner that was geometrically equivalent to the correct rather than the incorrect corners in the rectangle. The placement treatment is said to result in latent spatial learning based on the development of S-S associations.

Parameter Estimation in Spatial Generalized Linear Mixed Models with Skew Gaussian Random Effects using Laplace Approximation
Spatial generalized linear mixed models are used commonly for modelling non-Gaussian discrete spatial responses. We present an algorithm for parameter estimation of the models using Laplace approximation of likelihood function. In these models, the spatial correlation structure of data is carried out by random effects or latent variables. In most spatial analysis, it is assumed that rando...
متن کاملSpatial Latent Gaussian Models: Application to House Prices Data in Tehran City
Latent Gaussian models are flexible models that are applied in several statistical applications. When posterior marginals or full conditional distributions in hierarchical Bayesian inference from these models are not available in closed form, Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are implemented. The component dependence of the latent field usually causes increase in computational time and divergenc...
متن کاملTransition from thermal comfort to thermal pleasure: Explanation of the factors that shape thermal quality perception in the built environment
Different sensory stimuli, such as light, color, smell, sound and texture, play an important role in perceiving the quality of an environment. Heat, like other sensory stimuli, can contribute to the richness of an environment and provide a greater benefit to people. The fact that a person in addition to the thermal comfort of a particular environment can also benefit from its thermal quality, i...
متن کاملLatent Learning in Agents
Various cognitive models have been proposed to determine optimal paths in spatial navigation tasks, some of which demonstrate latent learning in Agents. We view and present the model as a Reinforcement Learning problem by using QLearning and Model-Based Learning in a deterministic environment. This paper uses a QLearning algorithm and compares its performance with the Dyna (Model based) algorit...
متن کاملInvestigating Predictors of High School Students’ Negative Attitudes Towards Learning English by Developing, Validating, and Running a Questionnaire
The purpose of this study was to explore the predictors of negative attitudes towards learning English from L2 learners’ points of view. A mixed methods research approach was adopted with a sequential exploratory design, followed by an endorsement phase. Eighteen high school students in Fars province (Iran) were interviewed on the sources of negative attitudes towards learning English. Based on...
